When you do 700 plus weddings a year, you have to love what you’re doing and that’s true of Della Peacock of Dellables.  Della has always loved flowers and it’s evident in the unique and exquisite designs that she comes up with for her brides – from bouquets to arrangements to arches, her many beautiful designs are inspired by her conversations with her wedding couples.  She is knowledgeable about what flowers are in season, what looks good in the venue of choice, which blooms are hardy and will hold up in the Hawaii climate.  Tune in to hear Della share a lovely story about a recent wedding and how she was able to personalize her design based on getting to know the wedding couple and what was important to them.

Born into a family of fashion, Jill Cullinan of Princess Kaiulani Fashions and Bridal Collections is Kahu Kalehua Featheran’s first guest.  Started in 1959 by her parents, Jill joined the company 25 years ago and began offering bridal gowns to island and destination brides.  Princess Kaiulani Fashion strives to preserve the island fashions of old Hawaii, as well as the updated interpretations of current fashions with a Hawaiian theme.  Every gown is custom made and clients may choose the style, type of fabric (a poly cotton with Hawaiian prints or various fabrics that can be hand-screened with exclusive designs). 

Though Jill’s preference is to have at least 6 to 8 weeks lead time, she is also happy to accommodate last minute orders because she enjoys working with each customer.  Viewers are treated to photos of some of the many styles that are available at Princess Kaiulani Fashions and Bridal Collections.  Honeylook.com members Celebrity Tuxedos (tuxedo), Flower Designs by Yuki (bouquet), Mana’o I’o (kahili and lei po’o) and the JW Marriott all supported Jill with their products and venue.

In Hawaii, a wedding reception is synonymous with luau and Kahu Kalehua’s second guest is Paulette Watson of Germaine’s  “Too Good To Miss” Luau.  Tune in to hear Paulette’s story of how she began dancing professionally after just 4 dance lessons and became the featured dance for Tavana.

Though this interview took place at Magic Island, Germaine’s Luau is located on the west side of the island, where the gorgeous sunsets often serve as background for wedding photos.  Viewers share the evening with newlyweds Dan and Marie Schultz from Minnesota, as they celebrate with family and friends at their wedding reception at Germaine’s Luau.  From being greeted on arrival, to photo taking with the ocean and Barber’s Point lighthouse as backdrops, to the Royal Court introduction, imu ceremony, hula teach, dinner, a musical journey through Polynesia, to the first dance by the wedding couple to the Hawaiian Wedding Song, Germaine’s Luau makes every effort to provide the couple with a memorable wedding reception.  And, at closing, a testimonial from the wedding couple and their family – a great close to a wonderful evening.

Scenic Magic Island is the background for Kalehua’s second interview with guest Yuki Shinohara of Flower Designs by Yuki.  Originally from Japan, Yuki arrived in Hawaii for school 12 years ago and left briefly to live in Washington DC to learn western floral arrangement.  Yuki’s mother is a teacher of flower design and so Yuki has been around flowers all her life.  She didn’t think she would follow in her mother’s footsteps but really found herself loving flowers and gaining inspiration from the beauty of nature, especially here in Hawaii.  From wedding flowers to tropical arrangements to flowers for all occasions, Yuki is happy to work with her clients to create original designs or to duplicate an order from a photo.

The sound of the pu or conch shell is heard as owner Kuiokalani Gapero of Mamolii Productions opens this week’s Hawaii’s Wedding Professionals.  Set against the majestic mountain range of Koolau Ballrooms and Conference Center, host Kahu Kalehua Featheran begins by asking Kui to share a little about his background and company with the viewing audience.

Originally from Maui, Kui attended Kamehameha School, where he started dancing hula and he loved it so much that it became an integral part of his life.  In forming Mamolii Productions in 2008, Kui’s vision was to portray his culture as best as he can with as much authenticity as possible in the hula and dances of Tahiti and Aotearoa (New Zealand).  Tune in to the show to learn about the pu (conch shell), ipu heke (gourd), puili (split bamboo) and uli uli (gourd rattle).  Mamolii Productions offers vignettes of 15 minutes to a full Polynesian Show, awa ceremonies, full sound systems, conch shell blowers, lei greeters, bartending services and much more for both wedding and other events.

     

Richard Li of Kahala Limo drives up to meet Kalehua in one of his luxury cars – a 1985 Rolls Royce.  He also has a Bentley, 2 Mercedes Benz and a Range Rover to offer for any transportation need – for the wedding couple on their special day, for airport/hotel/home pick up, corporate events, proms, Valentine’s Day or even for a special dinner so clients can enjoy a night out on the town and not worry about driving home safely.  Richard feels his vehicles offer another option besides a limousine that is more intimate and unique.

Phil Grunenberg of Phil’s Tux Shop is supported by his fellow members of the Aloha Wedding Shop Resource Center as he talks stories with Kahu Kalehua Featheran against the panoramic background of Koolau Ballrooms and Conference Center.  Richard Li of Kahala Limo models one of Phil’s tuxedos, along with Janna modeling a beautiful wedding gown by Milaniko and holding a sun umbrella from Umbrellas Hawaii and carrying a bouquet from Flower Designs by Yuki.

Phil has lived in Hawaii since 1986 and been involved in the clothing industry since 1971.  In addition to renting tuxedos and mens formal wear for weddings, Phil also provides professional wear for hotels, restaurants, conventions and other formal event.  His shop offers 50 different styles, some of which are exclusive to Phil’s Tux Shop - Richard Li is wearing such a tuxedo – the Concord by Calvin Klein.  Phil offers 50 to 60 colors for ties, vests and other accessories and he has relationships with companies on the mainland who carry 250 different styles, so you can be well assured that you will find something you like at Phil’s – and in sizes from 3 to 80 to rent or buy.  Destination couples are able to see selections, submit their measurements and orders all on line.  And throughout the show, our viewing audience sees the numerous styles of tuxedos available at Phil’s Tux Shop.  

Kahu Kalehua’s second guest is Annie O’Connor Hughes of Umbrellas Hawaii.  Kui Gapero of Mamolii Productions brought some of the Hawaiian implements used in the hula to display along with Annie’s colorful umbrellas.

Originally from New York City, Annie has lived in Hawaii for 25 years.  As a surfer girl who spent many years in the sun, her inspiration for creating Umbrellas Hawaii came from her own personal experiences of having to deal with sun damage to her skin.  Her umbrellas of many colors and designs, are made from ultraviolet protective factor fabric, tested and certified to block out 97% of UV radiation.  These tropical sun umbrellas a great sun shield that are also water repellent – a perfect accessory for a bride getting married on the beach or for providing a “freshness zone” when taking wedding pictures in our beautiful and scenic venues.

The beautiful JW Marriott Ihilani Resort and Spa is the backdrop for Kahu Kalehua Featheran’s first guest, Jerry Omo of Hawaiianpix Digital Photographic Services.  Jerry shared with Kalehua that Hawaiianpix has a Facebook page on the site now and as the number of brides who click “like” reaches a certain level, there will be drawings for a price pack, valued at $300 that includes jewelry!

Jerry was trained as a classic portrait photographer, but he and his staff also do a lot of photo journalistic shots, as this enables the couple to see all the people and things happening around them that they wouldn’t see except in photos.  He meets with the couple whenever possible to better enable him to capture the special moments important to the couple and to get to know them before the wedding day…as Jerry says, the wedding photos are a record that they will have and enjoy for the rest of their life.  Hawaiianpix also processes and prints all of their own photos via an in-house laboratory; an added service for Jerry’s clients.

The second interview is with Charity Schoenfeld of Paradise Pastries, filmed at Mila Niko wedding apparel.  Originally from Ohio, Charity and her business partner, Bethany, have been in business for over 5 years.  All of their bakery products are baked from scratch and their decorations are just exquisite.  Viewers are able to see wonderful samples of wedding cakes that Paradise Pastries have created for their past clients.

Half of Paradise Pastries’ clients are destination couples, so Charity does a lot of consultations with clients via phone calls, emails and exchanging of photos and drawings.  Destination couples who arrive in Hawaii a week before their ceremony and local couples are also able to meet with Charity or Bethany and have a taste testing.  The most popular flavors are red velvet with a cream cheese frosting and coconut cake with lilikoi filling; Kahu Kalehua will vouch for the vanilla cake with pineapple filling and cream cheese frosting – he said it was D-licious!!

Videography company, Propeller USA is Kahu Kalehua Featheran’s first guest and they filmed and edited their own interview segment at Best Bridal Hawaii’s Paradise Cove Crystal Chapel.  Albert Olsson and James Yehambaran were the on-camera guests and their colleagues were behind the cameras, using their equipment, talents and expertise to show you a sample of their work via the interview.
